Abstract
Risikokapital stellt eine wichtige Finanzierungsquelle für das Wachstum von jungen, innovativen Unternehmen dar. Öffentliche Förderungen sowie interne Finanzierungsquellen allein können in vielen Fällen den Kapitalbedarf derartiger Unternehmen nicht zur Gänze abdecken. Österreich weist in Bezug auf Risikokapital seit jeher eine deutliche Lücke zu vergleichbaren Ländern auf. Im Rahmen dieses Policy Briefs wird für eine systemische Betrachtung der Rolle von Risikokapital innerhalb des Ökosystems der Gründungslandschaft plädiert und argumentiert, dass gerade die mangelhafte Verfügbarkeit von Risikokapital einen Flaschenhals für die Dynamisierung des Gründungssystems in Österreich darstellt.
Abstract (english)
Venture capital is an important source of financing for the growth of young, innovative companies, as in many cases public funding and internal funding sources cannot cover alone the capital requirements of such firms. In relation to other similar countries, the Austrian case has always been characterized by a significant gap concerning risk capital. Goal of this policy brief is to advocate a systemic view of the role of venture capital within the ecosystem of the startup-landscape and to argue that the poor availability of venture capital represents a bottleneck for the dynamization of the startup-system in Austria.
