Abstract
Der FWF, der wichtigste nationale Fördergeber im Bereich Grundlagenforschung, finanzierte allein im Jahr 2013 mittels seiner Förderprogramme insgesamt 1.967 Doktorandinnen und Doktoranden von 27.634 in Österreich im Doktorat Studierenden. Ein besonderes Instrument darunter ist das Doktoratskolleg (DK), die auf internationalem Peer-Review bauen. Insgesamt zeichnet sich das DK-Programm dadurch aus, dass es das einzige im Förderportfolio des FWF ist, welches sowohl exzellente Forschungsprojekte als auch explizit ein Ausbildungsprogramm für Doktorandinnen und Doktoranden fördert.
Die vorliegende Evaluierung des FWF DK-Programms zeigt, dass es sehr gut läuft. Das DK-Programm wird sowohl seitens der Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler als auch seitens der Universitätsvetreterinnen und -vertreter als Exzellenzprogramm wahrgenommen. Es hat in diesem Sinne viele seiner Programmziele (gute Forschungsperformance, strukturierte Doktoratsausbildung, Internationalisierung etc.) erreicht. Auch war bzw. ist das DK-Programm impulsgebend für die Weiterentwicklung/Qualitätsverbesserung der Doktoratsausbildung an den österreichischen Universitäten. Hier nimmt das DK-Programm bis heute eine Vorbildfunktion aber auch eine finanziell essentielle, komplementäre Rolle ein.
Abstract (english)
The FWF, the most important national funding agency in the field of basic research, funded solely in 2013 by means of its programs in total 1,967 doctoral students out of the 27,634 who take their PhD in Austrian. A special instrument between the others is the Doctoral College (DK) which bases on international peer review. Overall, the DK program is characterized by being the only in the funding portfolio of FWF, which promotes both excellent research projects and explicitly represents a training program for doctoral students. The present evaluation of the FWF DK programme shows that it is going very well. The DK programme is perceived by both scientists and representatives of universities as an excellence programme. It has in this respect achieved many of its objectives (good research performance, structured doctoral training, internationalisation, etc.). Also the DK programme gave and still gives new impetus to the development / improvement of quality of doctoral education in Austrian universities. Here the DK program takes until today an exemplary function, but also a financially essential, complementary role.
